The Church of Rome has significantly departed from the Word of God and the early Christian Faith recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. Roman Catholicism embraced (or attempted to "christianize" pagan practices), which is forbidden by the Scriptures.

2 Cor 6:14-17 Today Roman Catholicism is more pagan than it is "Christian"

They have elevated their church magisterium (teachings)(Magisterium & Tradition - Catholic Encyclopedia) to a parity with the Word of God. The Roman Catholic Church is also a political entity, a city state with ambassadors called nuncios. The following links refer the reader to these issues in much greater detail.

"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;..." Exodus 20:4-5

Basically modern Protestant Theologians have taken away from God's Word, while the theologians of the Church of Rome have added to the Word of God. This is expressly prohibited by Jesus Himself:

"I, Jesus, have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book,
If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." (REV 22:16-21)

CHURCH OF ROME'S REQUIREMENTS FOR SALVATION

The Sacrifice of the Mass & the Eucharist

APOSTOLIC SUCCESSION & SALVATION

The "Sabbatine Privilege"
This superstition teaches that salvation can be attained
by wearing a brown scapular dedicated to "Our Lady of Mount Carmel"

How does a person get saved?

The Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church lists these requirements as necessary for salvation:

#1129 "The Church states that for believers the sacraments of the New Covenant are necessary for salvation."

#1257 states that "The Lord himself affirms that Baptism is necessary for salvation and Baptism is necessary for salvation for those to whom the gospel has been proclaimed and God has bound salvation to the sacrament of Baptism."

# 846 "Outside the (Catholic) Church there is no salvation"

The Apostasy of John Paul II: A Catholic Response

Written by Most Rev. Daniel L. Dolan of the Catholic Restoration. In his work Reverend Dolan, a traditional Roman Catholic cleric declares that the pope, John Paul II is in a state of apostasy. He has departed from traditional Roman Catholic doctrines, such as Extra Ecclesium Nulla Salus and embraced ecumenism which says that all religions of man are valid ways to eternal salvation

In Acts 16:30, the Philippian jailer asks Paul & Silas "And leading them outside, he said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

Paul & Silas respond "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved, and your household." Acts 16:31

The Word of God states:

Rom 10:8-10 "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." NKJV
Eph 2:8-9 "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." NKJV

Notice that the central focus of the Scriptures is on Jesus for salvation. However, central to the Roman Catholic version of salvation is the Roman Catholic Church and their sacraments.

Roman Catholicism is "another gospel", not that of the Scriptures.

Regarding "another gospel" Gal 1:8-9 "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed." NKJV

"NECESSITY OF BAPTISM-Theologians distinguish a twofold necessity, which they call a necessity of means (medii) and a necessity of precept (præcepti), The first (medii) indicates a thing to be so necessary that, if lacking (though inculpably), salvation can not be attained..."

Church of Rome's Attitude regarding the mixing of Christianity

& Pagan instruments of worship

"We need not shrink from admitting that candles, like incense and lustral water, were commonly employed in pagan worship and in the rites paid to the dead. But the Church from a very early period took them into her service, just as she adopted many other things indifferent in themselves, which seemed proper to enhance the splendour of religious ceremonial. We must not forget that most of these adjuncts to worship, like music, lights, perfumes, ablutions, floral decorations, canopies, fans, screens, bells, vestments, etc. were not identified with any idolatrous cult in particular; they were common to almost all cults. Roman Catholic Encyclopedia - Defintion of "candles" Candles

In Genesis 4 we see two religions; the faith & obedience to God's Word by Abel and the religion of works offered by Cain. The first expression of the true faith in God produced a martyr. The religion of works produced a murderer. As it was then so it was during the Reformation and so it is today.

The Word of God: 2COR 6:14-17 "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, ..."

CHURCH OF ROME'S MURDER of "Heretics"

Some Roman Catholic Theologians and Apologists read documents such as this and cry "religious intolerance". These statements are simply the truth about a religious system that has drifted far from the Word of God. For real religious intolerance, refer to the articles below:

Cardinal Hosius (Catholic, 1524), President of the Council of Trent: "Were it not that the baptists have been grievously tormented and cut off with the knife during the past twelve hundred years, they would swarm in greater number than all the Reformers." (Hosius, Letters, Apud Opera, pages 112,113.) Taken from page 3 of The Trail of Blood

The Inquisition & Absolute Authority of the Roman Church

John Wycliffe

As soon as Wycliffe saw a truth he declared it and acted upon it. This inevitably led to conflict and the remainder of his life was one of toil and trouble, though his industry was greatly used by God for the furtherance of the true Gospel. Wise and learned men consider that he did more than any other man to change the course of English history. Some, including John Foxe, also consider that he was more responsible than Luther for the Reformation in England. Many believe that Wycliffe's place in history has not received the recognition which it should have done. Some scholars say that without a knowledge of the work done by him and continued by his followers, the Lollards, we could not understand the English Reformation. Wycliffe's great strength was his adherence to the Scriptures. It was the faithful preaching and teaching from the Word of God which these men faithfully proclaimed which accomplished so much. Wycliffe grew spiritually as he gained greater knowledge and understanding of what the Word of God was teaching.

Jan Hus - Martyr for the Faith at the hands of the Church of Rome
The crimes of Jan Hus were

  • Hus called for a higher level of morality among the priesthood. Financial abuses, sexual immorality, and drunkenness were common among the priests of Europe.

  • Hus called for preaching and Bible reading in the common language, and for all Christians to receive full communion. At the time, laypersons received only the bread during communion, and only priests were allowed to receive the wine.

  • Hus opposed the sale of indulgences. These were documents of personal forgiveness from the Pope which were sold for sometimes exorbitant prices to raise funds for Crusades.

  • Hus opposed the relatively new doctrine of Papal infallibility when Papal decrees contradicted the Bible. He asserted the primacy of the Scriptures over church leaders and councils.

The Inquisition - from the Church of Rome's point of view

The name was finally changed in 1967 from "The Holy Office of the Inquisition to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Although popular belief holds that the Roman Church would never use this practice of Medieval torture again, the canon laws governing the Inquisition were strengthened, not eliminated, by a revision of Catholic Canon Law in 1983. This would lead any observer to conclude that the intention in the legal revision expresses the intent of the Church of Rome to use the Inquisition in the future.

    St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre

    Note Regarding the Inquisition:
In his History of the Inquisition, Canon Llorente, who was the Secretary to the Inquisition in Madrid from 1790-1792 and had access to the archives of all the tribunals, estimated that in Spain alone the number of condemned exceeded 3 million, with about 300,000 burned at the stake (R.W. Thompson, The Papacy and the Civil Power, New York, 1876, p. 82). A Catholic historian comments upon events leading up to the suppression of the Spanish Inquisition in 1809:

"When Napoleon conquered Spain in 1808, a Polish officer in his army, Colonel Lemanouski, reported that the Dominicans [in charge of the Inquisition] blockaded themselves in their monastery in Madrid. When Lemanouski's troops forced an entry, the inquisitions denied the existence of any torture chambers.

"The soldiers searched the monastery and discovered them under the floors. The chambers were full of prisoners, all naked, many insane. The French troops, used to cruelty and blood, could not stomach the sight. They emptied the torture-chambers, laid gunpowder to the monastery and blew the place up" (De Rosa, op. cit., p. 172).
