"Leaders of 20 religions will meet at the Vatican Oct. 24-29 to discuss possible collaboration in the next millenium. At least 235 clergy and laypeople form 48 countries will discuss discrimination because of race, religion, language, social status, or sex; the wealth of rich nations in relationship to the poor; injustice toward wormen and children; AIDS; and drug abuse, Religion News Service said.
...Those attending include Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Zoroastrians, Mandaeans, Jains, Shintoists, Confucians, Baha'is, practitioners of traditional religions, and practitioners of several Janpanese religions, RNS said. Christians to attend include the Greek, Armenian, Romanian, and Assyrian Orthodox; and the Anglican, Lutheran, Reformed, Mennonite, and evangelical churches. The goal is to agree on a joint declaration on the role of religion."
To those that are not very spiritually astute, this sounds like a very noble meeting that will take place. However, I'm sure you see where this is all leading, Bill. It's a shame that some of our most well-known evangelical leaders in the U.S. haven't caught on to what Rome is trying to do!
