The faith that turned the world upside down for Jesus Christ was done by the Holy Spirit working through ordinary men and women such as us.
This faith often cost the saints their lives. This attitude was expressed by Peter and John before the Sanhedrin, who ordered them not to speak in this name ("Jesus") again. Their response to this
order was "But Peter and John answered them and said unto them, whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you
more than unto God, judge ye. But we cannot but speak the things that we have seen and heard." Acts 4:19-20
This uncompromising faith is found in many of the early saints in the Church. Two women who stand out as examples to us are Perpetua and Felicitas of Carthage. Felicitas, a bond servant to the noble Perpetua, was probably responsible for witnessing about Jesus to her. Christianity in those days was regarded as the "religion of slaves". At a time when Christians were not being persecuted in the Roman empire, both young women were called to perform the annual pledge of allegiance to Rome by taking a pinch of incense, throwing it into a fire and declaring that Caesar is Lord. After this ceremony, Roman citizens were free to worship any god they wished. Both Perpetua and Felicitas refused saying that there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ. The governor in Carthage did not want to take action against these Christian "zealots". Therefore he called for Perpetua's father and her husband, both Roman nobles to speak to her and to beseech her not to shame her family. Perpetua and Felicitas refused to compromise, declaring Jesus to be Lord until they were put to death by wild beasts in the Carthaginian ampitheater. This was the "blood of the martyrs" which served as a seed to further the Christian faith.
I often have to examine myself to see that I haven't compromised with the world around me.
God says this about the world:
"Love not the world, neither the things in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world; the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the sinful pride of life in not of the Father but is of the world."1John 2:15-16
Again God says through the Apostle John; "For we know that we are of God and the whole world lieth in wickedness." 1John 5:19
Remember Jesus' words to us: " He that denieth me before men, I will deny before My Father, who aret in heaven." MATT 10:33
Those who don't openly oppose Christianity attempt to commingle the Faith with false religion following the counsel of Balaam NUM 31:16, NUM 25:1
